You love them. You see it differently. Both can be true.
Maybe it’s your friend, your sibling, your grandchild. Someone you love is transitioning or questioning their gender, and you want to stay in their life — but you hold values that make you unsure how, and nobody seems to be writing for people like you.
We are. Welcome.
What staying close can look like
The pattern we teach everywhere applies here too: clarity first, then connection. Get honest with yourself about what you believe and what this relationship is worth to you. Then build from there — because it turns out you don’t have to resolve every disagreement to keep showing up for someone.
You can ask genuine questions. You can say “I don’t fully understand, and I’m not going anywhere.” You can set your own boundaries kindly and respect theirs. Agreement is not the price of admission to someone’s life — but contempt, from either direction, usually ends it.
How we can help
Email us. Sometimes what helps is a conversation with our intake coordinator about your specific relationship. Sometimes it’s a referral to a therapist of your own. Sometimes it’s just knowing that wanting to stay close without pretending to agree is a legitimate place to stand.
